How Do Fluorescent Tube Lights Work's
Fluorescent tube lights work through a cool process called electric discharge. Inside the tube, there’s a mix of low-pressure mercury vapor and other gases. When you turn the light on, electricity flows through the tube and moves between two electrodes (called tungsten cathodes) at each end.
As the electricity passes through, it creates an electric arc that excites the mercury vapor inside the tube. This creates ultraviolet (UV) light, which we can’t see with our eyes. But here’s the magic: The inside of the tube is coated with a special phosphor material, which absorbs the UV light and turns it into the bright, visible light we see!
The best part? This process results in a super-bright, energy-efficient light that uses far less power than traditional incandescent bulbs.
